Another Discovery in Tulsa
Back in May, we shared Stephanie’s third trip to Tulsa with you. And as much as we didn’t want to have to tell you about a fourth trip, we’re happy to be able to share with you another discovery in Tulsa! One thing you’ll learn, as you spend more time in the chronic pain & chronic illness community, is that health issues are like onions, and it can take time to peel back each layer, only to find another layer underneath.
In early summer, Stephanie started to suspect that she would need to take a fourth trip to Tulsa, but wanted to put it off until the fall. She started a new medication in July, which helped her symptoms to some extent, but wasn’t the cure she was hoping for. In August, she called Haven Center and asked to schedule an appointment with Dr. Babb.
Stephanie and her husband flew to Tulsa on October 9th, and spent two hours with Dr. Babb on the 10th, where he discovered that Stephanie was suffering from, in his words, “a raging infection”, which was actually an overgrowth of fairly normal bacteria and yeast. Oops! Treating that for the last few days has helped Stephanie feel better. Well, except for the medication side effects! But it has given her hope that maybe by treating this infection, her body will have the margin it needs to knock out the atopic dermatitis as well. While in Tulsa, Stephanie also asked Dr. Babb to do a second biopsy, just to make sure there was nothing missed the first time around. She’s still waiting on those results.
While Stephanie isn’t using Aziza Project funds for her own travel and care, you can make a donation here to fund travel and care for people suffering from complex gynecologic pain.
